The Ferrari F40 is an italian hypercar produced since 1987 by the manufacturer of Maranello as successor of the legendary Ferrari 288 GTO and to compete with the Porsche 959 and the Lamborghini Countach.

Designed to celebrate the Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, hence the name F-Forty, was unveiled at the 1987 Frankfur Motor Show where it was literally acclaimed making clear from the beginning that the F40 will be one of the most beloved Ferrari, and maybe supercar, ever.

The Ferrari F40 mounts a 2.9 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine in mid-position, which can develop 471 hp and 577 Nm of torque, enough to push the car from 0-100 Km/h in only 3.8 seconds for a top speed of 324 Km/h.

The design was entirely from Leonardo Fioravanti for Pininfarina, already father of the Ferrari 288 GTO and other cars like the Ferraris Dino and Daytona.

The body features panels made of kevlar, carbon fiber, and aluminum for strength and low weight, and intense aerodynamic testing was employed. Weight was further minimized through the use of a plastic windshield and windows. It had a partial undertray to smooth airflow beneath the radiator, front section, and the cabin, and a second one with diffusers behind the motor, but the engine bay was not sealed. At last, the Ferrari F40 used a 5-speed manual trasmission with rear-wheel drive.

To take part at the 1988 24h LeMans, was presented a race version of the F40 prepared by Michelotto. From this rocket where derived 19 units to be sold to private customers, named Ferrari F40 LM and with the incredible power of 900 hp and a max speed of over 370 Km/h.

Since the 1994 another edition of the F40 was launched to compete in the GT Series Championship. Produced in only 7 examples, the Ferrari F40 Competiozione (also known as F40 GT of F40 GTE) had more than 660 hp thanks to a new 3.5 litre engine

On Top Gear, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson both refer to the F40 as the “greatest supercar the world had ever seen”.

The production of the Ferrari F40 ends in the 1992, when was unveiled the Ferrari F50, with 1.311 units made and sold for a price of 500.000 dollars (with examples sold for more than 1,5 million $).

Complete walk around with each detail like interior, wheels, engine, logo and lights.
